In the next 2 weeks we will be removing the garlic scape (shoots/tips) from the garlic plants. This process of removing the scapes will give more energy back to the plant to produce a bigger garlic bulb. What most people don't know that this part of the garlic is delicious. When uncooked it gives a mild garlic flavor and goes great with pastas, soups, and salads. For cooking, it is a sweet flavor and prepared similar to asparagus. Put some on the grill with olive oil....yum
So this year, try something new. You'll be glad you did.
It’s great to hear about the versatility of garlic scapes! Many people might not realize how delicious and useful they are in cooking. Removing them to promote larger garlic bulbs is an important step in the growing process, but the fact that these shoots can be such a tasty addition to meals is a fun bonus. Their mild flavor when uncooked can really elevate dishes like pastas, soups, and salads. Grilled with olive oil sounds like an easy and delicious way to enjoy them. It’s always exciting to try new ingredients, and I think many will be pleasantly surprised by how much they enhance their cooking this year!
